Clinical Laboratory Technician
Faction
- Crewmate faction
Role Description
- Active Ability: Sample Collection
- Collects a specimen from the targeted crew member.
-
If you manage to collect specimens from two crew members within the same turn, a Tissue Compatibility Test will be performed at the start of the meeting phase.
- If a meeting is called before you can use it on two people, the target selection state is reset.
- In this case, the number of available uses is not consumed.
-
Passive Ability: Tissue Compatibility Test
- If sampling has been completed, at the start of the meeting phase it determines whether the two crew members belong to the same faction or different factions, and sends the result to chat.
- If they are the same faction:
> The specimens did not react.
Specimen 1 and Specimen 2 appear to be on the same faction. - If they are different factions:
> The specimens showed a rejection reaction.
Specimen 1 and Specimen 2 appear to be on different factions.
- If they are the same faction:
- There are four ways to determine factions.
- For details, check the foldout under [Judgment Methods].

Judgment Categories: Explanation
- Assign-category based
- Classifies a role’s faction by its assignment slot.
- Assignment slot
- The same role category as the tabs on the role settings screen.
- Also the same role category as the tabs for [Nice Guesser](ナイスゲッサー.md) and [Evil Guesser](../Impostor/イビルゲッサー.md).
- Example:
- *1: [Faction Classification Example (Table)]
- Win-judgment-category based - Classifies a role’s faction by win judgment.
- Third-party vs third-party judgment - Judge as same faction. - Roles classified as third-party under [Assign-category based] or [Win-judgment-category based] are judged as the same faction regardless of win condition. - Roles with different win conditions are judged as different factions. - Among roles classified as third-party under [Assign-category based] or [Win-judgment-category based], if their win conditions differ, they are judged as different factions.
- Win-judgment-category based - Classifies a role’s faction by win judgment.

Special Faction Judgments
- [Shikigami](../Neutral/式神.md)
- Judged as a Crewmate in all settings.
- It is never judged as being on the same faction as [Onmyoji](../Neutral/陰陽師.md).
- It is never judged as being on the same faction as third-party roles.
- [Wolf Possession](../Modifier/狼憑き.md) - Judgment is performed without being affected by Wolf Possession. - The target’s Wolf Possession has no effect on the judgment. - The Clinical Laboratory Technician’s Wolf Possession has no effect on the judgment.
- [Lovers](../Modifier/ラバーズ.md) - Currently, overlapping role judgments are ignored and they are judged as third-party. (2024/02/11) - (Subject to change) - [Cloud](クラード.md) - Overlapping role judgments are ignored and it is judged as third-party.

Detailed Specifications
- After you finish using the ability, the cooldown is reset to 0 seconds.
- When you have used up all ability uses
- When you finish collecting from two people within a single turn
- In SHR mode, if a non-host player performs a kill (uses Sample Collection) after finishing the ability, the kill will fail without triggering a protection effect.
- In SHR mode, if a non-host player performs a kill (uses Sample Collection) on the same crew member as the first sampling target, the kill will fail without triggering a protection effect.
- In SHR mode, the host player’s initial sampling cooldown is set to 10 seconds regardless of settings. - It is set to the same cooldown as non-host players.

Why Include This Role?
- Concept
- **A Crewmate role that can analyze connections (lines) via a different approach than the [Sheriff](シェリフ.md)**
- While the Sheriff cannot determine detailed faction-to-faction connections, **the Clinical Laboratory Technician can, depending on settings, determine detailed faction connections**. - If, given the role distribution and the lobby’s skill level, the Sheriff’s [ability to reduce non-crew without relying on exile] is too strong, it’s also recommended to choose this role as part of balance adjustments.

Comparison: Sheriff vs Clinical Laboratory Technician
- How results are presented
- **Sheriff: target kill and self-death**
- Other players can see that the ability was used.
- **The number of living crew decreases.**
- Can resist PP (power play).
- **Clinical Laboratory Technician: private chat**
- Other players cannot see that the ability was used.
- The number of living crew does not decrease.
- **Cannot resist PP.**
- How line analysis is done
- **Sheriff: by determining whether the target is non-crew, you obtain information to organize other information, and then reason from that.** - Pros - Can distinguish whether the target is **non-crew** or **Crewmate faction**. - If the target can be killed, they are non-crew (Impostor, Jackal, other third-party); if they cannot be killed, they are a Crewmate. - Cons - Since it determines “whether they are non-crew (killable),” it cannot tell whether the crew connected beyond that line is on the same faction. - Because it only tells you non-crew vs Crewmate, it cannot rule out relationships like Impostor–Crewmate or Impostor–Jackal. - **Weak as information for identifying lines.**
- **Clinical Laboratory Technician: determines whether the two selected targets are on the same faction, directly judging the line.** - Pros - Not only whether they are Crewmate or non-crew, but **detailed faction information** can be learned (when third-party roles are in play). - For example, judging between a Jackal and a Sidekick yields: [The specimens did not react. Specimen 1 and Specimen 2 appear to be on the same faction.] - No penalty for a “failed” judgment, and since the ability is self-contained, it’s easy to use early. (When Sheriff is in the role list) - Because lines are often formed and information is easily confused early on, **checking lines early helps organize information and supports late-game deduction.** - Cons - Since it determines “same faction or not,” it cannot tell whether the targets are non-crew or Crewmate faction. - Whether it’s two Crewmates or two Impostors, the result will be [The specimens did not react. Specimen 1 and Specimen 2 appear to be on the same faction.], so you can’t determine whether that line is a non-crew line. - **Weak as information for verifying the truthfulness of information provided by players.**
